I’m getting ready to leave on vacation for Labor Day weekend (I’ll tell you all about that next week!), and the list of things I need to get done is longer than the number of hours I have left! This is going to be a short post, but it’s a holiday! So why are you sitting around reading my brilliant thoughts right now, anyway? Before I head to the beach, I wanted to give you a few quick tips for having a healthy holiday weekend!
Summer may be ending, but there’s still time to enjoy the warm weather! Make some plans to get outside and be active this Labor Day! I will be hiking through the woods and sand dunes near Lake Michigan with my friends, but there are plenty of other fun things you can do right at home!
Are you having a cookout? Get everyone to join in for a game of capture the flag or create your own backyard Olympics! Staying home and relaxing? Get off the couch and go for a walk! You don’t have a run a marathon (although you could…or maybe just a 5K) but get moving and enjoy the summer weather while it’s still here!
Make a Healthy Meal Swap!
If you’re grilling, pick chicken breast over hot dogs. Make an oil based potato salad instead of a mayo-based recipe. Munch on crispy carrot and celery sticks (don’t forget the dip!) instead of chips. Throw some fresh fruit on the grill for dessert. You don’t have to give up your favorite holiday treats, but you can make them healthier!
Spend Time with Family and Friends!
Nothing lifts my mood more than spending quality time with family and friends. In fact, science has proven that spending time with friends releases chemicals in the brain that make you feel less stressed! So spend some time laughing over old times and get your chill on!
What are you doing for your healthy holiday weekend? Leave a comment and let me know!
